Rosa Abbott • Writing • Curating • About
Rosa Abbott is a writer and curator based in London. She holds an MA in Culture, Criticism and Curation from Central Saint Martins (2019) and BA(Hons) English Literature/History of Art and Architecture from Trinity College Dublin (2012). Her practice foregrounds pleasure, sociality, subjectivity, discussion, and the joy of reading, sharing and generating texts.
Since 2017, Rosa has been making and publishing work under the pseudonym Babette, as part of an ongoing research project exploring the use of constructed identity and self-invention as creative practice, and particularly as a queer practice. In 2019, an artwork by Babette was included in the exhibiton I AM SO MULTIPLE IN NIGHTS at The Pool, Brussels, a text-based piece engaging with the modernist speculative fiction writer Anna Kavan.
Since 2019, Rosa has been a member of two curatorial collectives: Liquid, exploring expressions of intimacy in the digital era; and Kleió, committed to working with contemporary artists and practitioners to address the historic exclusion of women and marginalised identities.
Rosa worked on press and communications for Kerlin Gallery, Dublin for four years, and has written about contemporary art, fashion and culture for magazines including Hyperallergic, Aesthetica, Paper Visual Art, The Gloss Magazine, and Totally Dublin, where she was arts editor for five years.
